Lawrence Joseph Glatt

Lawrence was born in NYC during the golden age of Broadway. Going to shows with his mom, he found
his deep passion at an early age. When it was time to specialize, Glatt chose to study classical guitar and
attended Queens College in NY and Florida State University where he ultimately received a doctorate in
music. Dr. Glatt spent several years as a university professor in the Midwest but left that to go to
Toronto to start a family. With classical guitar not paying the bills, Lawrence found a new passion:
Waldorf Education. At Waldorf he was able to bring together his love of classical music, musical theater
and his new found love of working with children.

Lawrence Joseph Glatt was in the education world for 30 years but he never forgot his first
passion—creative music making. While a teacher and school leader, he wrote 3 musicals, produced 3
cd’s and wrote numerous compositions. After retiring from full time teaching and returning to Toronto,
Lawrence is again fully focused on creating new theater works. He has worked with several
collaborators as composer and sometime lyricist. Life, The Musical: Not the Cereal was written in the
90’s with Joel Friedman. Nelly Bly was written in 2016 with Glen Burger. The Snow Queen was written
with Dean Carter in 2018.

The last few shows have been written with Glatt’s son, writer, Benjamin Glatt. Miranda’s Quill is based
on characters from The Tempest and Roll of a Lifetime is set in a table-top role-playing game with a
young cast who are playing the game while coming to terms with the end and their imminent
“breakup.” Lawrence and Benjamin are currently working on several new musicals including one they
are writing with Dr. Glatt’s other son, recording artist, Ezra Glatt. Open Mic is set in the world of West Coast open mic nights and coffee houses; it’s characters are the heroes who show up every week to
wear their heart on their sleeve.

This fall, Lawrence will be leading a second workshop of Miranda's Quill at the Hawthorne Valley School in the Hudson Valley.

Glatt has a YouTube site featuring his guitar playing and singing, Glatitude,
